Abstract

This study reveals that women in Islamic Andalusia played a pivotal and multifaceted role in society, transcending traditional stereotypes to become active participants in science, literature, economics, and social life. They contributed to the transmission of religious and educational knowledge, managed scholarly circles, and passed on knowledge to future generations, thus enhancing their intellectual and cultural standing. Women also made significant literary and artistic contributions, from writing poetry and prose to participating in literary gatherings, which contributed to the development of education and local culture, and fostered artistic and aesthetic awareness within the community. On a social level, women played a fundamental role in strengthening family and community cohesion through education, caregiving, and the transmission of human and moral values. They also contributed to economic activity by managing family businesses and handicrafts, which provided financial stability and enhanced their ability to influence society. Despite social constraints, class disparities, and limited political participation, women were able to adapt to challenges and seize available opportunities, leading to positive transformations in their status within Andalusian society. This study provides a comprehensive view of women's multifaceted contributions, demonstrating that their history in Andalusia is not merely a fleeting memory, but a model for understanding the relationship between culture, education, and social activity in Islamic civilizations. The findings reflect the importance of empowering women and recognizing their historical contributions to building a balanced and stable society, highlighting the humanitarian role of Islamic civilization.
